Dear <%NAME%>, as you remember from July's issue we left
off with body-mind-connection. I can prove to you that
the body and the mind are connected. By now you know enough about me that
I am not the type of person that just likes to say things without proof.
So here is how you prove body-mind connection and how you can begin to change
perceptions about aging so that you can live happier and healthier more
fulfilling life.
Think of the last scary movie that you saw.
When I was a kid it was Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street. I knew
it wasn't real but when that music came on and the camera panned in closer to
the victim......man did my heart begin to race. You may even think about
the last sappy movie that you saw. If it was a love scene or something
really sad, it may've jerked tears from your eyes. Why??? Very
simple. The mind/brain thought that it was real. This is why virtual
reality games can be dangerous for people that have heart conditions. It
is so believable for the mind that the body reacts in such a way which makes you
believe that what is happening is real.
Sounds good theoretically, but how can you prove it to
me now?
No problem, I will abate your doubts (if you have any). Let's do a little
experiment ok? In a few moments I want you to close your eyes and think of
something that makes you feel uncomfortable. Many of you have already done
this with me but just follow along. When you begin to think of that thing
that makes you uncomfortable, pay particular attention to the area of your
stomach or chest. You are going to notice that there is a discomfort there
too....a physical reaction. Some notice that there heart
races. Some people find that there breathing pattern changes; there
may be a tightness or bad feeling there. Ok...do that now and just notice
what happens.
Feel anything??? That's how the body reacts to
negative thoughts.
Now....close your eyes a second time and think of
something that you would love especially without limitations. In other
words, there was no financial limits there was nobody getting in the way or
nobody telling you that you can't. Imagine that what you want to do is
possible and doable. Close your eyes and notice the difference in the
feeling of what you feel from the positive to the negative thought.
Did you feel that? Did you notice the
difference between a positive thought and a negative thought? I'll tell
you something else that's really neat. There is something called
Kinesiology and what that basically translates into is body talk. It's a
way that we can ask the body yes & no questions so that the body can give us
a response by muscle testing. To explain it very simply, an arm is
extended out with the elbow locked in place. A question is asked that would
require a yes or no answer. Then the arm is pushed down. If the
individual is able to resist, the answer to the question is yes if the arm goes
down with little resistance, the answer is no. Of course it's more complex
than this but you can do this experiment at home:
1. Take two small pieces of paper. On one write a plus sign and the
other a minus sign and fold the pieces so that the person you are working
with can't see what's written.
2. Choose a victim, I mean a subject
3. Have them extend their arm (right or left doesn't matter) out with the
elbow locked in place.
4. Give them one of the pieces of paper and have them hold it up to their
chest.
5. Now push down on the arm and see if the person can resist
6. Do the same with the other paper and see the difference
What happened?
You will notice that each paper will influence the
person in a different way. So not only do our inner thoughts influence
our bodies but things from the outside influence our bodies as well.
Pretty neat huh? You can do this muscle test with different foods to see
the level of sensitivity that one has to them. If the arm weakens the body
is somehow sensitive to the food or the body is rejecting it. If the
arm is strong the body accepts it. Now please keep in mind that
this is to be done for fun and not as a diagnostic tool because there are
actually some people that are reversed which means that their body will actually
crave bad foods and reject good ones. This condition requires the
intervention of a trained kinesiologist.
I'll tell you something else that I found interesting this
month. I was listening to a CD program from an individual named
Randy Gage. He was talking about others that walk barefoot on hot coals
and how he had actually done it. The coals were 1200 degrees and he, along
with many others were actually able to walk on them without getting their feet
burned. I wasn't willing to do this without proper training but I did want
to experiment with ice. As you know, if you put a piece of ice on your
hand, it will give you a burning sensation in about 10-15 seconds when
held. The first time I did it, I couldn't withstand more than about 30
seconds. I then closed my eyes and briefly meditated telling myself that I
believed that I could do it. When I placed the ice the second time, it
stayed there for abbot 5 minutes without a problem. I then got bored and
took it off. The point is that the mind does influence the body. And
the stuff we tell ourselves and things that we hear from others affects us so
profoundly that we may even be living our lives the way others expect us to
without discovering out true potential or gifts. I suggest you do some of
the things I wrote about in this letter so that you can see the power of all of
this and instead of worrying about getting older like many do...celebrate the
fact that you are, and see yourself (in your mind) aging with health, looking
good, feeling good and gaining more knowledge. There is a lot that you can
do about the beliefs that were introduced into your mind as a child and even as
adults with just simple affirmation. Sometimes, there are certain beliefs
that we receive and accept even though we are not aware we are accepting them.
In what way do these beliefs enter our mind?
The term for it, whether we are children or adults is waking
hypnotic suggestions. Others can actually put suggestions in your
subconscious mind without you even knowing about it. This can be very
damaging especially when you don't know about it. (more on this in the
next issue)
