Dear <%NAME%>, I believe this months topic is really
helpful for so many people.
Do you talk to
yourself? I do. There's all sorts of
things that I say to myself. As you already know...what you say to
yourself is what your belief system is and more importantly what you believe
about yourself. Why is that so important? Because what you believe
about yourself makes you who you are, how you act, and sets out the map of your
short and long term goals. Whew...that's big time for just those little
thoughts in our heads isn't it?
Think about it...if a person
is always saying motivating things in his/her head like, I can't wait to start
that new project, I'm excited to see what today holds for me, I'm really looking
forward to tonight's get together etc. he/she will look for the excitement in
life. The mind looks for things that are stimulating, motivating and those
things that make you feel good. However or BUT (I hate when that but gets
in the way) when you wake up and say "ohh man I feel soooo tired.
" "I really don't want to go to work today." "I
can't stand my life, why am I so upset, depressed, "Why have I failed so
many times?"
Yuck! That brings down
your physical energy, it fills you with a negativity that doesn't allow anyone
to move forward and sucks the life and potential out of you. Self talk
is very important. Do you remember what I wrote in my first
issue? Self-judgment. When a person self-judges, he/she suppresses
the potential that could otherwise flourish. That's why I began with
it. If you are still self-judging, get rid of that voice in the head and
turn it around. If you don't know what to do...call me (or E-mail).
Self-evaluation is good, but self-judgment... downright destructive!
Equally important to
self-talk is what questions we ask ourselves. This is part of self-talk
and the truth is...we are always asking ourselves questions about all sorts of
things. What is the reason that we ask questions? Well...I just
asked you one...and that was to get an answer. When you ask your mind a
question...it's job, function, nature is to do research. It looks for
things that will give you an answer so that you can learn more, develop an idea
or to validate the information that you already have stored in your
subconscious. If you ask questions that are negative, it will look for
things that further validate and compound the information that you have stored
in your mind. For example: if you say, "Why is my life so
difficult?" The mind will look for an answer and say "well...you
hate your job, you don't have a lot of energy, you have a lot of clutter in your
garage, etc. etc. etc. The mind will give you a million answers that will
satisfy that question.
The secret is to ask the
right question. Instead of "Why is my life so difficult," a
better question is "How can I make my life better," or "What can
I do starting today, to improve my life?" In this way...you direct
your mind to guide you into giving you the answers that will satisfy that query.
If you don't feel good, ask "What can I do to feel better?" If
you don't understand something, ask "What can I do to better understand or
to get the answers that I need about __________situation?" You are
already asking the questions...just make sure you ask the right ones. If
you wake up feeling crappy, ask yourself "What can I do to make this day
better, more meaningful or great?" If you've been through a difficult
situation...ask yourself "What can I learn from this and what can I do so
that it never happens again?"
Asking yourself questions
that will give you results is so easy and it requires no more than a small shift
in thinking, yet that small shift is so powerful that it can change your
perception about yourself, about your life and how you live it. Ask the
right questions....START NOW!
Hope you had
a good Halloween and I wish you a great Turkey day! Until next time.
