Dear <%NAME%>, Happy New Year! I have a question
for you. What's a way to make our dreams come true?
Remember last month we talked about setting a
goal for yourself for this year? All of us have goals and we would love to
accomplish them. But I'm not talking about getting your laundry done or
cooking dinner for yourself. I'm talking about a goal that will bring you
great satisfaction. It's true that cleaner clothes and a full stomach will
satisfy you but a goal that you have in mind that will give you pride give your
great pleasure.
Last month, I suggested you take something
that you want to accomplish and write it down. Write the goal very
generally and then get specific. Why? Writing things down gets
you focused on what you want to accomplish. It gets your subconscious
juices going in order to come up with the best way to move in the direction
which will bring you ultimate success. But writing something down is
only the beginning. Besides the thought and the movement of the pen, there
has to be action.
"Actions Speak Louder
Than Words!"
You've heard that one before. But what's
most important about that statement is that it teaches you that the act of doing
something.... anything, weighs more than (in many cases) talking about it and I
would say even thinking about it. Think about it, if you say or think that
you are going to tell your boss off, or you actually do it, the doing is going
to be much more dramatic, and it will get a heck of a lot more attention
too. Look, I am a very big proponent of the power of the mind, but because
many times we have conflicting thoughts about what we really desire deep down
inside, we tend to sabotage the very thing that we desire. The why we
sabotage can be left for another issue, but the action that we take can show us
that we are really serious about what we want to get accomplished.
When we desire something and we go as far as to write it down but do nothing
about it....who are we fooling? Listen...if we look deep down and we say
"I've done nothing about the goal that I want to accomplish, do I really
want it?" The answer that you'll most likely get is" No" or
"Yeah...but." Forget that! Prove to yourself that you
really want what you want and that you really are serious about your
desire. How do we accomplish that goal easier?
Turn a Mountain Into a Mow Hill.
We've all heard the expression "turning
mow hills into mountains, well...do the opposite now. What do I mean by
this? Many people and maybe even you, when they have a goal in mind and
set out to accomplish it...they look at it....say "I have to do this and
this and this and ohhh this too, oh no, and that...how am I ever going
to...? That's definitely not the way to go. Feel what is going on
inside you and let that go. You don't have to accomplish everything in a
day, or month or year. Your success is not going to be based on what you
accomplish when you finish your goal, but on how you build your goal. Your
success is going to be based on the little steps you take on a daily basis to
reach your goal.
That's right!
The little steps are the most important because most people can't "start at
success." Who starts at the finish line? Start with a step, and
then take another step, and then another and another. A journey of 1000
steps begins with the first. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at
a time. You can have a big picture in mind, but don't forget about the
little picture. You don't paint a picture by throwing paint on it.
You paint a little bit at a time don't you? If you have a goal in mind and
would like to accomplish it...write down your goal and then take two baby steps
everyday until you've reached your goal.
By doing this...you guarantee your
success. Also, keep this in mind. Your baby steps are not meant to
complete your goal. If you take it like that, you put too much pressure on
yourself. They are meant to get you to the next step. The idea here
is to have fun with what you are doing, enjoy and learn from the process and to
get you to the finish line.
